In the twisted world of Canadian sports politics amateur boxing is once again taking it on the chin.


The finger pointing has already pointing at BOXING QUEBEC and the alleged failure to submit
numbers of registered boxers.  Of course, anyone should know that Quebec is likely the top Province
for Amateur Boxing so the fact they did not get the numbers filed on time, as reported,  should not
sabotage the whole sport of boxing in Canada. 


Now those good folks at the Canada Games maybe standing on rules, but one needs to 
take a famous second look.

Long before Pascal was an amateur or professional, he had a story part of which is his arrival in Canada
as a pre-teen, and when he reached his teens like many others he turned to amateur boxing and began training with SYLVAIN GAGNON.  Back then, who could have guessed what his boxing journey
would reveal.  Over time, he would become a Canadian amateur boxing champion and be one of the members of Team Canada Boxing to participate in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England.

THE 2002 MANCHESTER COMMONWEALTH GAMES

JEAN PASCAL was one of a number of Canadian amateur boxers that did well.
Others were Sebastien Gauthier, Andrew Kooner, Benoit Gaudet,
Michael Walchuk, Jason Douglas, and David Cadieux.

Other Canadian Champions 2001 and 2002 included B. Latham,
A. Decaire, R. Romero, R Savage and Donnie Orr.

THE PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY

Based on the BoxRec record book, some of early pro bouts from  2005 were in Montreal.
One of the bouts with MARTIN DESJARDINS was for the Canadian Super Middleweight
Title.  His first loss came at the hands of CARL FROCH in England.

Behind every champion lies a worthy contender, a NATHAN CLEVERLY bout would be a natural if PASCAL can eliminate the old warrior BERNARD HOPKINS.  - time will tell.

By the end of Sunday, there will only be four to determine the shade of the medal that they will win.  For the other four it will be a bell too far, and one of the four
that will be eliminated will be Australian LUKE JACKSON or England's
TOM STALKER.

For BOXING CANADA one of the shining stars is ALEX RYNN from Calgary, 
Alberta.  To-date, Alex has defeated two opponents to earn a spot with the
select.  To make the medal round, ALEJANDRO (Alex) RYNN  needs to 
earn a win over MOALA of Tonga in quarter finals action. 

Not to be overlooked in the action will be JOSH TAYLOR of Scotland.
Fromhis initial bout, Josh impressed his team mates by being the first
to move forward to the next level with a victory over previous medal winner
DARREN EDWARDS of Wales. The Edwards loss was one of many for 
the Welsh team.  The latest from Wales to miss the semi-finals is 
ANDREW SELBY

The last four lightweights will compete in the semi-finals on the road to gold.
Four Nations - England, India, Scotland and Tonka will add medals to their
Commonwealth Games collection.
