THE UNSUNG HEROES: by brian zelley
(from old issues of the BC AMATEUR BOXING NEWS)

The success of any organization requires the dedication of many volunteers
...In recognition of the dedication and distinguished service of the officials
to the success ...this page is dedicated to the ring officials.

Now that was in 1985 so who were some of the past officials scattered
throughout the towns of British Columbia.

From my memory bank back to the sixties, one of the earliest names
that I remember was Victoria based referee JACK O'HANDLEY

but how could we not mention the many others
VIC MURDOCH, RUDY BIANCO, IAN GIBSON, SID KNOPP,
JACK MELLOR, JOE PRESTON, ALAN STOCKDALE and EARL VANCE.

but then back to the Fifties and remember
DUSTY MAIR, BOB EDWARDS,and LEN LIGHTFOOT.

the tournament  Dick was golden boy runner-up while
Portland boxer Ray Lampkin was the
winner and golden boy after his finals victory over
Vancouver's hometown east end boxer WAYNE BOYCE.

Vancouver Sun reporter DAVID EMPEY:
- but it all came down to either Findlay or Ray Lampkin...
...It was LAMPKIN, the quick and tough featherweight
from Portland's Knott Street, who knocked Wayne Boyce
flat on his face with a left hook and right cross, then
blasted him with sizzling jabs and hooks
