ANDREW SELBY - TEAM WALES
For the various Boxing Teams from the Commonwealth Nations, we begin with the individual boxers in the last days of their preparation before leaving for Delhi to compete in the 2010 GAMES.
Action in the ring will take place at the "Talkatora Indoor Boxing Stadium".
We now know the names of the boxers, coaches and managers of many of the teams from
Australia to Canada, England, India and the other places around the globe.
For the Canadian team (see photo of the names) we have the seniors such as DIDIER BENCE
and STEVE ROLLS to the young ones like ALEX RYNN from Alberta. They and their team mates
will be in competition with members of the Australian team such as lightweight LUKE JACKSON,
and members of three boxers from Guyana - DEVON BOATSWAIN, DEXTER JORDAN and CLEVLON ROCK.
For ENGLAND (see photo) of team including Tommy Stubbs and Bradley Saunders
New Zealand boxers will include JOSEPH PARKER, NATHAN MCEWEN, ANGUS DONALDSON, REECE PAPURI and DAVID ALOUA of a five member team.
For SCOTLAND the team includes boxer CALLUM JOHNSON from England, but qualified for Scotland.
Over the next few weeks, we will follow the progress of the Commonwealth boxers as they compete
against the best at Delhi, India.
THE CREAAM OF THE CROP - LIGHTWEIGHTS JOSH TAYLOR and TOM STALKER
As the days passed, the most anticipated final would be a lightweight contest between
England's TOM STALKER and Scotland's JOSH TAYLOR To-date, each bocer has
demonstratd excellence in their bouts.
BRADLEY SAUNDERS - TEAM ENGLAND
ReplyDelete- Born on Stockton-onTees and in 2006 was a member of the
'South Durham Amateur Boxing Club'. aMong his previous achievements was being of the 2008 Olympic Team.
LUKE WOODS - TEAM AUSTRALIA
ReplyDeleteThere are many interesting stories, but one of the interesting reports was the story "Doing It For Jesse". It is about Latrobe boxer LUKE WOODS
who lost his friend and sparring partner JESSE CRACK in a car accident;
Luke is one of those individuals where it does not matter if he wins a medal or even a match because his road from Tragedy to Glory of being on Team Australia in 2010 is THE STORY. His father was a Champion of Australia in the Eighties, Craig Woods.
Part of the preparation for the Delhi Happening has taken place
ReplyDeleteat the AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF SPORT in Canberra.
STEVE ROLLS - TEAM CANADA
ReplyDeleteSteve Rolls, the middleweight. has been around for a number of years
and has the right stuff to win the "Gold". Steve first saw the light of day in 1984 when he was born in Hamilton. He keeps rolling along and has the tools to win.
TOM STALKER - TEAM ENGLAND
ReplyDeleteLiverpool's own Tom Stalker is ready for action in the lightweight division
and is currently being trained by ROB MCCRACKEN and spending time in Sheffield getting ready for his appearance in the Commonwealth Games.
PATRICK (PADDY) BARNES - YEAM NORTHERN IRELAND
ReplyDeletePatrick could be one of the experienced boxers that should be an Irish hope for a medal. He was in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and earned a bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics in the light-flyweight division.
His goal before retiring or turning pro is to be at the 2012 LONDON OLYMPICS where he hopes to medal one more time.
KEVIN EVANS - TEAM WALES
ReplyDeleteKevin will be one of the experienced members of Team Wales.
(See photo of full team of boxers)

ReplyDeleteBRADLEY SAUNDERS - ANTHONY OGOGO - TOM STALKER
TWO CANADIAN BOXERS removed by BOXING CANADA.
ReplyDeleteFull details have not been released, but
boxers COLIN FISH and STEVE ROLLS were dropped from the team. Difficult to comment on a story without the facts, but it is a story that needs to be told as the reputation of the two boxers and BOXING CANADA is hanging in the balance,
THE ACTION IN THE RING
Some interesting results in the first few days
of boxing action in Delhi with some expected winners including BRADLEY SAUNDERS and TOM STALKER of TEAM ENGLAND.
Also, good to see three Canadians advance including ALEX RYNN of Alberta. But, for
TEAM WALES there were a few disappointments.
For TEAM AUSTRALIA, it was good to see young LUKE WOODS move forward. As previously reported
young Woods has an interesting story.
SATURDAY ACTION Will RING A FEW BELLS
ReplyDeleteBy a twist fo the results, two of the most interesting matches will
feature
ANDREW SELBY vs HAROON KHAN, and
IAIN WEAVER vs AK. KUMAR
The side story is the case of England;s KHAN not being picked for
TEAM ENGLAND and then fighting for Pakistan. Selby of Wales edged past TOMMY STUBBS in a close bout yo earn a shot against Khan.
The other interesting bout features England;s IAIN WEAVER ;who will
be facing India;s poster boy AKHIL KUMAR. At the end of these two bouts, two will move into medal territory and two will be left with
just the memories of competition.
For all four boxers and Tommy Stubbs, the total competition will be
a move to be selected for the 2012 London Olympics. The big question mark is if Khan wins for Pakistan, what will he do in 2012?
Others that are in contention include the likes of England;s
BRADLEY SAUNDERS and TOM STALKER, but then there is
Ireland's PADDY BARNES and the Canadians. However, two of the Canadian boxers were dripped by BOXING CANADA 0-
STEVEN ROLLS and COLIN FISH while the others from ALEX RYNN
and DIDIER BENCE are in the Game.
E
In the quarter finals it will be England's TOM STALKER
ReplyDeleteagainst the Australian team captain LUKE JACKSON.
Also, in the lightweight division will be Canada;s
ALEX RYNN and five others. Winners of the Saturday showdown
are guaranteed a medal - be it bronze - silver - gold.
