FRIENDS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA BOXING

The FRIENDS of BRITISH COLUMBIA BOXING: by Brian Zelley

It could be argued that the sport of Amateur Boxing in British Columbia
has many friends comprised of different groups and individuals scattered around the Province.

BRITISH COLUMBIA AMATEUR BOXING HALL OF FAME

A fresh new group of friends of ex-boxing folk asnd some active folks
that joined together in June 2010.By September 2010  The six administrators are:
Ray Beaulieu, Scott Galloway, Daniel McGarvie,
Steven Kodiak, Steve Wood and Brian Zelley.

By September 2010, 15 names from a list of 50 were selected as the core group;
Rick Brough, Dave Brown, Fred Desrosiers, Dick Findlay, Fred Fuller,
Freddy Fuller, Eddie Haddad, Chris Ius, Elio Ius, Harold Mann,
Pat O'Reilly, Frank Scott, Manny Sobral, Dale Walters and Jimmy Walters.

It is expected more names will be recognized in 2011 by the 2011 Administrators.

THE FRIENDS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA BOXING (2000)

Before the BC Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame, there was a small group
formed in Vancouver in 2000 called Friends of British Columbia Boxing.
Some years back, there was a story in the VANCOUVER COURIER"
about the groups decision to have a group to remember past boxing folks
with their names on plaques on park benches at Hasting's Park.

Some of the folks involved include
 RICK FLECK and CID BIANCO,

2001 Names;  JAMIE OLLENBERGER and EDDIE OSTAPOVICH
2002 Names:  ELIO IUS and FRED FULLER

Not sure if this group still exists, but it was a great way to remember
past members of amateur boxing from the Greater Vancouver area.

THE ROAD AHEAD:  EX-BOXERS OF BC

There has been past discussions about the formation of a ex-boxers of BC Group or Society
which could include past or even current pesons involved in the sport of amateur and
professional boxing from boxers, trainers, officials and coaches.

One of the projects of the group could be taking over the administration of the
British Columbia Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame, or they may want to expand
it to include pro boxing, but some of the old time pros such as KEN LINDSAY,
FRANK & STAN ALMOND,  JACKIE TURNER,  BILLY TOWNSEND
and ithers would be covered in amateur boxing.
